TID honors Bill Foster with bridge naming
July 6, 2004
On June 30, 2004, the TID and surrounding communities gathered together to honor former County Engineer Bill Foster under the largest bridge in Butler County, which now bears his name. It's possible there would be no highway connection without the efforts of Bill Foster. "Never ever in my life at any point in time did I think something like this would happen to me. I considered this part of my job. It was my responsibility as county engineer." spoke Mr. Foster, truly touched at the honor.
Mr. Foster was honored with proclamations from the West Chester Chamber Alliance and City of Hamilton. The TID's Vice-Chairman Don Hassler also presented Mr. Foster with a framed copy of the TID Board of Trustees resolution where they took the initial steps to have the structure named after the former county engineer. Hamilton City Manager Mike Samoviski declared Wednesday June 30, 2004, William R. Foster day in his honor.
Foster teared up and stopped several times as he was making his comments and thank yous to others in the crowd who were vital to the success of the highway project and those that helped in the naming process. When Mr. Foster started work at the county's engineering department in 1970, the highway project was in its infancy. Over the next 24 years, the project grew to consume him. He's proud of the highway now, but said he was relieved to be able to leave the engineer's position in 1994 when the TID took over the project.
