| Why Princeton Road will be closed for 14 weeks |
||||
|
Recently Princeton Road was closed east of Bypass 4 on July 8 for a period of appoximately 14 weeks. Several people have asked why will it take this long to upgrade the road. The TID would like you to better understand what this phase of the Princeton Road/Bypass 4 intersection entails. Currently, the section of Princeton Road is a two lane road (with a left turn lane onto Bypass 4) which creates traffic congestion at the intersection. The improvements will widen the current road to have left and right turn lanes from westbound Princeton to Bypass 4. The road will soon have four foot shoulders and be sixty feet within the actual roadway at the intersection of Bypass 4. The improvement should reduce traffic congestion from westbound Princeton Road. Now for some of the details that are causing the road to be closed. The contractor needs to remove 6,900 square yards of pavement and 18,400 cubic yard of dirt (or fill). This will enable the roadway to be a consistent grade of 4.02% from the base of the hill near Lakewood towards the intersection. Currently, the grade is considerably steeper at the base of the hill. The contractor will also be adding elements for utilities. There will be 100 lineal feet of four inch conduit and six inch conduit added. This will enable the adjoining properties to receive power from the applicable sources. There also is eighty lineal feet of twenty-four inch concrete pipe and another nine lineal feet of thirty-two inch concrete pipe for water drainage being added. With the change in grading of the roadway near Lakewood Drive, the water valves need to be raised for the current system so the contractor must raise the valves and applicable piping. We hope that this explanation will help those residents affected better understand why the road needs to be closed for these fourteen weeks. Thank you. Butler County TID Staff | ||||
