TID MOVES BUTLER REGIONAL HIGHWAY ONE STEP CLOSER TO CONSTRUCTION

TID to Hold Meeting with Interested Contractors Friday, February 20th

On Friday, February 20th, the Butler County Transportation Improvement District will hold the last meeting with contractors prior to advertising the Butler Regional Highway for construction. Approximately 100 representatives from national, state, regional and local contractors, sub-contractors, minority contractors, labor unions, and the Ohio Department of Transportation are expected to attend this half-day conference to discuss the plans for construction of the Butler Regional Highway. The discussion begins at 9 a.m. at the Wilks Conference Center on the Miami University Hamilton Campus.

"This meeting is unique in that we improved the process by adding an ongoing dialogue with contractors who are interested in this project," said Darrell Barger, TID Executive Director. "All levels will be present at this meeting--from local sub-contractors to the largest construction firms in the United States--to offer their input in developing innovation for the construction of the Highway, the single largest highway project in the state of Ohio. Because of this, there will be significant benefits in faster construction, limiting unnecessary costs and improving the efficiency of the facility."

The Butler Regional Highway will be a four-lane, divided highway connecting Hamilton to I-75. This 10.7 mile project begins at the intersection of the current State Route 129 and State Route 4 in Hamilton, and runs east between Princeton and Hamilton-Mason Roads. Interchanges will be constructed at I-75, Bypass 4, State Route 747, and Cincinnati-Dayton Road. The TID plans to begin construction this spring, with a goal for completion in early 2000.

The TID is a local agency established to plan, finance, construct and maintain road improvement projects. Since its inception in 1994, the TID has undertaken planning and facilitation of other projects including the new Union Centre Interchange; the widening and extension of Muhlhauser Road; the Symmes Road Extension; and improvements to State Route 747.
