Release Date: October 10, 1997 UNION CENTRE INTERCHANGE CONSTRUCTION TO REROUTE I-75 TRAFFIC BEGINNING MONDAY INTERCHANGE CONSTRUCTION TO REROUTE I-75 TRAFFIC IN UNION TOWNSHIP BEGINNING MONDAY, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Construction of the Union Centre Boulevard Interchange with I-75 in Union Township, Butler County, will reroute I-75 traffic over the exit and entrance ramps between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Thursday, Oct. 13 through Oct. 16, 1997. Only one direction of traffic will be affected at a time. Southbound I-75 traffic will be re-routed over the ramps on Monday and Tuesday nights. Northbound I-75 traffic will be rerouted over the ramps on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Bridge work will be performed by crews during the overnight hours. Traffic will be restored to normal each morning at 6 a.m. Rerouting traffic over the exit ramps is not the most common method employed during this type of construction; however, it is safer and it allows traffic to keep moving. The other option requires closing the interstate for a short period of time, reopening the interstate for a period of time, and repeating the pattern. Significant delays are not expected. When the steel was set for the bridge over I-75 in August, the ramps were used to keep open traffic. Although estimated to take four or more weeks, crews laid the steel for the bridge in only two weeks, and the success has been attributed to this method of traffic management. The TID coordinates federal, state and local resources for the purpose of financing, constructing, and operating transportation projects in Butler County. Currently, the TID has several projects planned including the Union Centre Boulevard Interchange and the Butler Regional Highway. The Union Centre Boulevard Interchange is on schedule to open in December of this year. |
