UNCLAIMED LICENSE TAG REFUNDS SENT TO STATE UNCLAIMED MONEY FUND

UNCLAIMED LICENSE TAG REFUNDS SENT TO STATE UNCLAIMED MONEY FUND

On Monday, September 15, 1997, remaining outstanding warrants from the Butler County Transportation Improvement District's License Plate Refunds were sent to the Treasurer for the State of Ohio to be included in the State Unclaimed Money Fund. There are 650 warrants totaling $12,970 left outstanding.

Last fall, the TID solicited proposals from the Butler County Auditor's Office and several financial institutions to administer the issuance of the refunds. Ensuring a significant savings over the alternatives, the Auditor's office was selected. Since December, 1996, the Butler County Auditor's Office managed the issuance of refunds which totaled over $575,000.

"At this time, we again wish to recognize the efforts of the Butler County Auditor's Office in facilitating the distribution of these refunds. Clearly, the cooperation of the Butler County Auditor with the TID significantly reduced the overall cost," said Darrell Barger, TID Executive Director. "The professional management provided by the Auditor's office was key. They held these monies open two months longer than required to accommodate warrants redeemed as late as the first week of September."

Individuals who have not redeemed their $20 license tag fee refund should contact the office of State Treasurer Ken Blackwell, State Unclaimed Money Fund.

Originally imposed in Union Township in 1995, the $20 motor vehicle fee was rescinded by the TID in August, 1996, when Union Township officials decided to explore alternative modes of finance to provide the Township's share of funding for the TID's projects.
