TID RESCINDS UNION TOWNSHIP LICENSE FEE August 22, 1996 The Board of Directors of the Butler County Transportation Improvement District voted unanimously today to rescind the $20 motor vehicle fee in Union Township and to make arrangements to make a full refund to those individuals who have already paid the fee. The fee was originally imposed in 1995 by the TID Board at the request of the Board of Trustees of Union Township. The Trustees have recently passed a resolution approving the use of Tax Increment Financing as a source of revenue to provide the Township's share of funding for the TID. In accordance with this decision, the Union Township Trustees, by resolution, requested the TID to withdraw the motor vehicle fee. In keeping with the stated position of the TID Board that the method of funding of local contributions to the TID is a matter to be left within the discretion of those subdivisions, the Board is pleased to comply with the request of the Trustees. In addition, the Board of Directors felt that, while it would be legal to keep the money collected to date, it would be unfair and not in keeping with the wishes of the Township. Accordingly, the Board directed the Director to make all necessary arrangements to make a full refund to all those who have previously paid the fee. Tom Hayden, President of the Union Township Board of Trustees was quoted, saying, "This is a wonderful example of cooperation between the TID and the Township. Careful consideration was given to all alternatives and we feel that this is the very best solution. We thank the TID Board for their cooperation and patience while we worked out this solution." Darrell Barger, TID Director, said, "This plan works very well and we are pleased to bring this issue to a close. I would like to say that it will take several weeks to work out the refunds. Nothing like this has ever been done before. I ask that people, please, not call the TID about a refund. We will notify the news media as soon as a plan is developed."
